In this program I will cover, subject placement, contrast, lines, backgrounds, natural backgrounds, textures, cropping, leave space at the edges, rule of threes, vertical and horizontal framing.

If you live near a beach, go check it out for some cool abstract patterns. I shoot these with my largest f-stop, f/32, to get all the sand and pattern in focus.. Don’t go the day after it rains, the rain washes away the patterns, so wait a few days after a rain for the patterns to rebuild.

Use the “Structure” slider in Viveza 2 to help pull out the texture in the sand.

Here is the original image out of the camera.  Cropped, sharpened,added some darkening filters and then a filter that created the lighting effect.

Back in February I posted about the first signs of life of 2024 in the Northwoods.

It was the pods with a flower head inside the pods of the Skunk Cabbage plant shown below.

You find them growing in wet areas in the woods. 

As the ice and snow melts away and temps warm, the leaves of the Skunk Cabbage emerge from the pods.

The leaves will grow very large and completely cover the whole area so you can no longer see the ground below.

Now it's time to create your abstract art.  

Go out in the morning when the sun is just peeking over the horizon, and the sun will backlight the Skunk Cabbage leaves and the veins in the leaves will really pop creating artistic abstracts.
